About the role:


The Gallery Assistant Internship Programme will provide successful applicants with an exclusive opportunity to gain in depth knowledge working within a contemporary art festival. Interns will gain behind-the-scenes insight into the working of arts professionals during the planning, production and delivery of the festival programme of art exhibitions, event programming and live performances. 

Gallery Assistant Interns will offer support and assistance to the festival team with projects related to gallery management, education programming and festival promotion.

Key responsibilities of the role:

responsible for daily gallery operations

  • interacting with festival visitors

  • tracking attendance records

  • assisting with the maintenance of exhibitions and galleries

  • assisting with gallery openings and programed festival events

The Intern will contribute to a TULCA blog project operated by the gallery management team. 

  • writing and editing a daily vlog of the internship experience

  • encouraging contributions of new post ideas from other interns and volunteers

  • participating in intern discussion groups by thinking critically, discussing ideas and leading the group discussion with an artwork of their choice

The Intern will report to their supervisor as requested and assist the festival team where required. The Intern will be provided with two evaluation meetings to assess their contribution throughout the term of the project.

Requirements:

  • background in the arts, with a specific interest in contemporary visual art

  • excellent problem-solving and communication skills, both in copywriting and interpersonal interactions

  • ability to work individually and with a team

  • ability to interact with different targets of people efficiently

  • highly motivated, resourceful and flexible with an ability to multitask and meet deadlines effectively

  • fluent in English (essential)

Role commitment:
The intern will be expected to be based in Galway or have the flexibility to easily travel to Galway during the festival run (1-17 November 2024).

5 hours per day in a 5-day work week will be required. Flexibility to accommodate possible last-minute changes is desired (work schedule will be arranged once recruitment is completed).

Start date: 21 October 2024
End date: 18 November 2024
