Gernot Wieland

Gernot Wieland.jpg

Gernot Wieland makes artworks based on the deconstruction of narratives, and questions the idea of humans as the ideal measure of all things. His works float humorously between the fictional and the documentary and illustrate the absurdities of everyday life, be it with humans or animals. Scientific and para-academic research is the foundation of his reflections, which are materialised in the exhibition space as sketches, diagrams, lecture performances, photographs, and 16mm films, and are supplemented by his own—often early childhood—memories. His recent solo exhibitions include Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, St. Gallen; Quartzstudio, Turin; Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg (all 2020). This year he has also participated in ARKIPEL International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, Jakarta; Wait and See, International
Film Festival, Rotterdam and VIII Kinodot Film Festival, St. Petersburg, where his film Ink in Milk won Best Film Award.
