Kevin Mooney
Kevin Mooney is an artist based in Cork. His work is informed by his family background, including his perspective as a UK-born Irish person, and his experience of an oral storytelling tradition. Mooney’s paintings employ imagery and languages from disparate locations, making associations between Ireland and the Caribbean, compressing time and history into the immediate space of the canvas. With this compression, his work can be read as a reimagining of an alternative indigenous art history, a speculative visual culture projected into the cultural voids created by emigration and colonisation. Mooney has participated in group exhibitions such as Pine’s Eye, Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (2020) and EVA International, Limerick (2018). His solo exhibitions include Fragments of San Borondon, Triskel Arts Centre (2019); Apparition, Sternview Gallery (2018) and Twilight Head Cult, Ormston House, Limerick (2016).
