The Law is a White Dog is a podcast series developed for TULCA Festival of Visual Arts, curated in 2020 by Sarah Browne. Made during a global pandemic, the series places artists and artworks in dialogue with lawyers, advocates and activists. These include researchers and practitioners from the Irish Centre for Human Rights and the Centre for Disability Law and Policy, both located at the National University of Ireland, Galway, including Maeve O’Rourke, Eilionóir Flynn and Maria Ní Fhlatharta.

Artists in the programme have been invited to consider how their works relate to legal processes such as bearing witness, giving testimony, granting pardon, lodging complaint, forming contracts or presenting evidence. The podcast series includes original artworks and discussion pieces that reflect on key presentations within the festival programme. Produced to accompany a festival of visual art taking place in a time of confinement and restriction for many, the series explores unseen dimensions of these practices.

Episodes will be released throughout the festival in November. Each episode is accompanied by a PDF transcript. The podcast series can be played from this webpage and through the following podcast platforms:
